– Pat Buchanan speaking for the oppressed white man. (via notthatkindagay) I mean, he knows that the only reason any of these things are true is because white men forbade women and black men from taking part in all of these things, right? Right? RIGHT? O GOD MAYBE HE DOESN’T KNOW?!?!? (via...

Did you know...
emilyposts: The Manhattan Project was not named for the city. The name was based on an obscure radio code: Man=Einstein; Hat=God; Tan=Strike This seems like a myth to me. I’m reasonably sure that the Project got its name from city of Manhattan. It was originally called the Manhattan Engineering District, after the Army Corps of Engineer’s habit of naming groups after the city in...

The 50 Greatest Movie Trailers of All Time  →
bg5000: Thank god Maximum Overdrive made the list. Perfect for movie-junkies. Hard to disagree with anything on this list. Also, “In space, no one can hear you scream,” has to be the best tagline in the history of movies.

leilacohan: But I am irrationally excited that as of today it’s “only” a year until our wedding and, as of tomorrow, less than a year. Oh, the joys of having to book a venue absurdly early! I hate you so much right now. So, so so very 5 weeks away much.

A deal in Iran?
From Reza Aslan (no, not the lion) via The Daily Beast: “At the very least, it seems [Rafsanjani] may have gained enough support from the clerical establishment to force a compromise from Khamenei, one that would entail a runoff election between Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his main reformist rival Mir Hossein Mousavi.” This doesn’t sound like a done deal to me, and I’m not...

oliviaisferosch: nickgerber: One of our planners just came in and told us about a client that had 300 invitations done for $500 A PIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love when I feel like my clients are spending “so much” on me and then I discover things like that. What? I mean……..What? How do you even spend $500 each on invites? Guests, perhaps (if you’re insane), but invitations?

Soft Power, con't.
From the aforementioned Nowruz greeting to Iranians by Obama: You, too, have a choice. The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations. You have that right — but it comes with real responsibilities, and that place cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of...

Soft Power
From Aziz Poonawalla, via the Daily Dish: What Obama has done instead has been to quietly facilitate and encourage what he referred to as the “healthy debate” within Iran about reform. For example, the State Department asked Twitter to delay their network upgrades, so as not to interfere with the social-media-driven organizing of the reform movement and rallies. This is in stark...

leilacohan: rubysneakers: http://arthurkade.com/kade-scale/ 10-The “Cream of the Crop” A woman who has it all: Amazing body, Distinctive facial features, Would stand out at a hot club, and someone who I would be proud to take to a black tie event, and not want to leave with another hot girl there. Wonders of the age we live in
Speaking to childhood friends and groomsmen simultaneously. One lives in Hong Kong, the other in Scotland. All while following the events happening in Iran. From one location, with just a computer and a data feed. I try not to be too wowed by modern technology, but sometimes it’s worthwhile to sit back and appreciate just how small the world has become.

The Islamic Republic of Iran
I am just in total awe of what is happening in Iran right now. I’m going to try and collect some thoughts today for a full post on what we know for those who haven’t had a chance to read the excellent coverage at the New York Times website and Andrew Sullivan’s blog. In short however, it certainly appears that not only was this election rigged, but they didn’t even...

Getting Reports of Ahmadinejad losing
thephenthouse: adeandabet: Trying to substantiate with a legit source. Anyone else hearing anything? Can we get a link? At this point there is no way to know. Iran does not have the immediate results that we are accustomed to. I would expect early returns tomorrow at the earliest, and a final count maybe my Monday. Also, without a majority (non-plurality) winner, there will have to be a...

Best Absence Note Ever  →
First, President Obama called on Corpus to ask a question about his plans for health care reform. As he posed his query, he let drop that his daughter was skipping school to see the president. Does she need a note? Obama asked.

WHO declares first flu pandemic in 41 years →
Please note; this does NOT mean that it is any more deadly than it has been. It only means that it has spread globally. In NYC, for example (and here I am referencing the NYTimes article) only 0.1% of people who have become infected with the virus have even been hospitalized. That’s a much lower number than the normal strands of the flu we’re used to. (via upsider)
