"White men were 100% of the people that wrote the Constitution, 100% of the people that signed the Declaration of Independence, 100% of the people who died at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, probably close to 100% of the people who died at Normandy. This has been a country built basically by white folks, who were 90% of the nation in 1960 when I was growing up and the other 10% were African-Americans who had been discriminated against. That’s why."

Pat Buchanan speaking for the oppressed white man.
(via notthatkindagay)

I mean, he knows that the only reason any of these things are true is because white men forbade women and black men from taking part in all of these things, right? Right? RIGHT? O GOD MAYBE HE DOESN’T KNOW?!?!?

(via crazyonyou) Also worth pointing out that he is completely wrong about both Gettysburg and Vicksburg. Vicksburg in particular is notable since it’s one of the first major Civil War battles in which black regiments had a noticeable impact in favor of the North. The idea that the country was built by white folks is like theater of the absurd. I’m not out on the revisionist frontier with Howard Zinn and the like, but the idea that the economic prosperity in this country’s early days wasn’t a direct result of the exploitation of black and then Asian workers is nonsensical.

Ichiro is probably my favorite active baseball player. During an interview before the season he said when he hits 40 he’s just going to learn how to throw a knuckleball and pitch for 10 years. I hope so.

Did you know…

emilyposts:

The Manhattan Project was not named for the city. The name was based on an obscure radio code: Man=Einstein; Hat=God; Tan=Strike

This seems like a myth to me. I’m reasonably sure that the Project got its name from city of Manhattan. It was originally called the Manhattan Engineering District, after the Army Corps of Engineer’s habit of naming groups after the city in which they were headquartered.

Thank god Maximum Overdrive made the list.
Perfect for movie-junkies. Hard to disagree with anything on this list. Also, “In space, no one can hear you scream,” has to be the best tagline in the history of movies.

Does 7 separate interviews with 7 separate people for 1 job sound a little extreme to anyone else?
